Stages 11 and 12 cross from Horton Plains to Udaweriya and on to Haputale, about 34 kilometres over two days. Stage 11 is moderate and uses the national park. Stage 12 is about 19.7 kilometres, graded difficult, and takes around six hours. The trip starts in Nuwara Eliya from 130 US dollars. Pack for cold mornings.
This is the high traverse, not a Kandy day hike. You need an early gate on the plains and a realistic respect for stage 12, which is one of the harder Pekoe days. The night between Udaweriya and Haputale is simple and warm, which matters after a day above 2,000 metres. Horton Plains tickets are quoted separately unless we fold them into your price.
Note: About 33.98 km on foot. Pickup in Nuwara Eliya at 6:00 a.m. Drop-off Haputale or Nuwara Eliya, day 2.
Horton Plains to Udaweriya, 14.3 km, inside park hours, then a night on the Haputale side.
Udaweriya to Haputale, 19.68 km and about six hours. Transfer onward from Haputale if you are not staying there.

Open in Google MapsYou can stop after stage 11, but then book the one-day stage instead of this trip. Stage 12 is the reason this version is graded challenging.
